Practical information

On Sunday, September 21st, you can watch our beer specialists at work during a brewing event at the Paenhuys museum brewery. You'll learn more about the brewing history and the brewing process.
At the Paenhuys, the focus is on the historic brewing process, with a restored historic brewing installation combined with a modern cooling, fermentation, and storage system. Thanks to this brewing installation, visitors can also taste what beer tasted like centuries ago.

brouwmomenten

There's life at the Paenhuys museum brewery! With BKRK Beer, Bokrijk brews in a traditional way. The Bokrijk brewmasters are constantly inspired by different recipes from the past.

Throughout the day, you'll follow the members of Gilde Demerdal as they create a contemporary interpretation of a historic beer recipe using original materials in original kettles. The malts and grains they'll be using come from Hof Van Dormaal in Tildonk, Haacht. These malts are locally grown and were also vermouthed on-site.

Discover the day's itinerary here.

You'll also sample a Mechelen beer or bière de Malines. Mechelen beer consists of 4 parts barley malt, 1 part wheat, and 1 part oats.

At the Paenhuys in Diepenbeek, located in the Open Air Museum, they brew exclusively experimentally. These brews are not bottled and therefore not sold. You can sample them, subject to availability, during your museum visit.
