Birthday party anno 1900
A guide takes the group on a journey through time through the Open-Air Museum. Children playfully discover how birthdays were celebrated in the past. Was it different from today? And which do we prefer: as it was in the past or as it is today? A fascinating and fun journey of discovery, enhanced with games, practical exercises, and craft activities.

A festive welcome from the guide at the Information Center. The birthday person, wearing a felt crown, takes a seat in a beautifully decorated wagon. A festive birthday procession, with all the invited children dressed in accessories from their grandparents' era and playing all sorts of musical instruments, passes through the Open-Air Museum. From one historic house to another, maps of Bokrijk in hand, the group continues their procession, uncovering hidden clues. An exciting journey of discovery and a unique birthday party at the Bokrijk Open-Air Museum.
The tour is full of varied and unique activities, just like those offered during a birthday party in Bokrijk: children discover the difference between birthdays of yesterday and today, patron saint festivals, and heroes of yesterday and today. Enjoy fun games from their grandparents' era, such as climbing with ski poles. Discover what made people happy in the past. Each child learns about beehives and beeswax and leaves with a homemade candle. The children sing old and trendy birthday songs. A group photo becomes a joyful moment and an unforgettable memory for the birthday person.
In the authentic rope-making workshop, a Bokrijk guide demonstrates how skipping ropes were once made, and some children are welcome to participate. A special gift is given to the person being celebrated. Afterward, a game of tug-of-war or skipping rope is a must. The group ends their visit at the old candy store for a drink and a bag of candy, or rather, at a decorated table in a real tavern for fries or pancakes. You have three options to choose from.
