What do his works tell us about daily life in the 16th century? And how does his oeuvre translate into the present day? You will become familiar with original 16th century objects, carefully selected by dr. Sabine Pénot, Bruegel expert of the Art History Museum in Vienna. It shows items from Bruegel’s time, and discover the meaning behind the landscapes and scenes he depicts in his works. Like no other, this artist had the gift to capture ordinary people with all their particularities.

During this route your group experiences what you had to do, to survive in the self-sufficient agricultural society in Kempen in the past. You needed a lot of skills to work in agriculture: you had to make and repair your own tools, weave, churn butter, make bread or look after the animals. As well as these hidden skills in agricultural families, every village had professional craftsmen such as carpenters, blacksmiths or a rope-maker. The professional craftsmen all depended on each other and worked closely with the agricultural workers. Our interactive approach demonstrates the connection between the skilled craftsmen.
This can be booked from summer 2019.
